I’m crossing the hallway to go into my study when Lily comes sauntering out of another room. “May I see you for a moment?” she asks.
I shrug. “Sure.”
She gestures to the bedroom she came out of.
“Can’t we go into my office?” I ask.
“No,” she says. “You won’t pay attention to me, then. This won’t take long. Then you can return to your precious work.”
I follow the Lily into the bedroom and sit on the edge of the bed. She jumps up on the chair opposite me. “Hold on for just a minute,” she says, and licks her paw to wash her ear. “Better,” she says. “There was some tuna in there.” She stares at me.
“What?” I say.
She stands and drags out a small but heavy gold chain which she manages to get around her neck. Then she puts on cat sunglasses and gets on her hind legs to say:
“Yo, I know how you really love dogs
You put ‘em in your books and you put ‘em in your blogs
