This is a partial view of a banquette I have in a corner of my kitchen. My latest addition to this corner is the owl you see here, featured on a tray. I found him at a used furniture place and couldn’t stop looking at him. I didn’t need him, exactly, and I am chastised often enough by my practical friends who say that I don’t need another thing, period. Oh, I need groceries and the occasional new pair of socks and I really do need fresh flowers. Flowers before bread, as the French say. But mostly, my friends say, I need to get rid of things. They are absolutely right, but I had to have this owl and I’m glad now that I do have him, because I like to think that staring at him long enough will bring me some wisdom.
