Sweet story about your first love. Mine first boyfriend was Billy Roy. We were three-years-old and I only have my mom's word on this. My real first boyfriend was Bobby Fink in first grade. He got in trouble for punching another boy in the stomach in the lunch line because the boy asked Bobby if he could kiss me. haha Our parents were friends. One evening Bobby and I "got married" during a neighborhood party. He pushed me around in a wheel barrow (guess that's how you get married in first grade.) Alas, we went our separate ways. Then years later when we were about thirteen, my family was invited to spend a weekend at his family's lake house. Awkward is an understatement!! Somehow we both survived the weekend.
In the first grade I was in love with a boy named Chuck. I think all the girls were and they were all much prettier than I was so, I knew he would never notice me, plus I was the fat girl. He kissed a girl named Lori in the cloak room and she let all of us know. I was broken hearted but continued to love him from afar. He moved the summer after 1st grade and ended up at a new school. I didn’t have another crush until Roy Rogers and that was a big one. Dale was a problem and I wasn’t quite sure how I could mother his children, most of whom were older than me, but that didn’t stop my daydreaming. He was so handsome, those crinkly eyes and his smile. I may still be a little in love with him.
I had a mad crush on Frankie Avalon when I was about 13. Years ago I was at a comedy show in Vegas and he was in the audience and was introduced. After the show several people went up to him asking for an autograph or a picture. I just told him about the crush I had on him and how much pleasure he had given me over the years. He was so sweet.
OMG that brings back so many memories. My first crush was in first grade and I was crazy about a boy named Mitch Chandler. I lived in Ohio then and we went outside for recess every day regardless of the weather. The boys had built a snow fort and evidently dared Mitch to kiss me. So (and this may not be the way it happened but is the way I remember it) they dragged me down to the snow fort and I received my first kiss from a boy LOLOLOL. And then there was red headed Jeff in 7th grade. In math I sat in the front of the room and he sat in the back. I sharpened many pencils on the pencil sharpener in the back of the room during class just so I could gaze at him. How innocent we were back then (I'm 73 now).
I wonder if grammar school-age girls still write "Mrs. ___ ___," the way you wrote "Mrs. Billy Hall" (or the way Marjorie Morningstar wrote, "Mrs. Noel Airman") ??
I could just picture you in your classroom. Strangely enough, it looked just like mine! And that boy sitting two rows and three seats over was named Steven Dougal, not Billy Hall. You never forget that first love.
I’m so happy you are going to be giving a reading soon and by the way I loved the book. Does this mean your pinched nerve is better? I certainly hope so
Sweet story. I was painfully shy of boys for a very long time. My first date wasn’t until college. By the way, how are you feeling? I’m hoping better since you’ll soon be having a book talk.
I think I was in 5th grade when we moved to the city, and on the same street as the Doherty family, mostly girls the age of my older sister, but their one brother was my age and I really liked Paul. He taught me to sled on snowy city streets and, once, saved my life by grabbing the back of my sled and causing me to swerve out of the path of a car. Our short romance ended when he took a bracelet from one of his sisters and gave it to me as a gift. It was embarassing for both of us when she came to my house demanding I return HER bracelet. Many, many years later, my husband came home from a meeting and said, "I met an old friend of yours today, Paul Doherty, he says he never forgot you". And, of course I had never really forgotten him either even though we moved away after only a couple of years on the same street; as I informed my dear husband, "Paul saved my life, you should thank him".
So sweet and quite funny! I had few romantic interests -- maybe 6 in my entire life, and at least half of them were totally unknown the the interest I had romantic thoughts about. The first crush was when I was in 6th grade, another one in high school, and two in college. The last one was 50 years ago, and it's still going strong! As a full adult, I've maybe thought about what romance would be like with someone besides my husband once or twice. Pretty boring, I guess!
Mine was Lin Abercrombie! We sat next to each other all the way through 5th grade because we were both little and sat at the front of the class. I have a class photo from around 1959 where Lin and I are in seats smaller than the rest of the class!!!
oh - I totally forgot - I did have a crush on one of my brother's friends - he was 9 years older than me - when I was about 8 I was roller skating and saw the two of them walking my way - I called out "watch me Marvin! as I skated on one foot coming down a driveway - fell and broke my arm!

Oh I love this!
I was just thinking the exact same thing!

There’s nothing like first loves 💗 they set the bar for all others. This has me thinking of all the loves too.

Elizabeth, I hope your back is feeling better.

OMG!! He’s on Facebook and still looks the same!! I, on the other hand, do NOT!!🤣🤣🤣
Love it! Yes I think I had my first crush in kindergarten.
That is very sweet but completely unsentimental. Looking forward to the next.
Please come to Dallas sometime!
